Amazon deal terms glossary: what each deal label means
Amazon's deal labels overlap, and a few of them (Today's Deals, Deal of the Day) are not defined in Amazon's help pages. Each entry below says what the term means, what to check, and where Amazon publishes no definition.

This page defines terms. For how the deal types differ in practice, see Amazon deal types explained; for judging a crossed-out price, see the list price check guide.
What is a Lightning Deal?
A Lightning Deal is a discount limited both in time and in quantity. Amazon says it is available “one per customer, until the offer ends or all deals are claimed”, and that once a deal sells out it is over even if time remains on the clock.1,2
What to check: Look at the claimed bar and the timer, and finish your order promptly. The deal types guide covers the cart window and waitlist rules.
What is a Deal of the Day?
It is a label for a featured daily deal on Amazon's deals pages. We found no Amazon shopper help page that defines it, so we do not state how long one lasts or how Amazon picks it.
What to check: Read the timer or end date on the listing itself rather than assuming one day. Related limited-time labels are explained under Deal of the Day and other limited-time deals.
What is Today’s Deals?
Today's Deals is the Amazon page where current deals are collected. Amazon describes a row of shortcuts on it to different product categories and types of deals, including Lightning Deals.2 It is a page, not a deal type.
What to check: Each item on it follows its own rules. Open the listing and note whether it is a timed deal, a coupon or a member price before you rely on it.
What is a Prime-exclusive deal?
Amazon's Prime benefits page describes Prime Exclusive Deals as “deals every day on thousands of items available only to Prime members”.3 The deal price is for members; the product page shows the requirement next to the price.
What to check: Confirm your plan qualifies. For Prime Day, Amazon says Prime Video-only members are not eligible for the deals.9 Browse current member deals on our Amazon Prime deals page.
What is a coupon (clip coupon)?
An Amazon coupon gives a percentage or a fixed amount off one product or a set of products. It appears on the product page, where a shopper can “clip” it or enter a code.5 Amazon's coupon terms say coupons are valid for a limited time and are not valid until applied to the qualifying item.4
What to check: Clip it before you check out and confirm the reduction in the order summary. The same terms say the discount will not apply if you buy after the coupon ends, and that on a return the coupon value may be subtracted from your refund.4
What is Subscribe & Save?
Subscribe & Save discounts an eligible item in exchange for repeat deliveries. Amazon says the discount is shown on the product page when you sign up and can change at any time.6 Amazon's pricing page adds that it is based on the One-Time Price of the same item from the same seller, and may change with future orders.8
What to check: Check the delivery schedule before you confirm, and re-check the discount on later orders. Amazon says you can cancel at any time.6
What is Amazon Warehouse (Amazon Resale)?
Amazon Resale is the current name for the store formerly called Warehouse Deals. It sells customer returns, open box and warehouse-damaged products, each graded Like New, Very Good, Good or Acceptable.7
What to check: Read the condition grade on the listing. Amazon says an item that does not match its listed condition can be returned within 30 days, while “Used - Acceptable (Final Sale)” items are non-returnable.7 See our Amazon Resale deals page.
What do “List Price” and “Typical price” mean?
Amazon defines the List Price (also called the MSRP) as the suggested retail price of a new product as provided by a manufacturer, supplier or seller. The Typical Price is the 90-day median price paid by customers on Amazon, leaving out prices paid during limited-time promotions.8
What to check: Amazon itself notes that List Prices may not reflect the prevailing market price, so a percent off a reference price is only as meaningful as the reference.8 Our list price check guide walks through the label checks.
What is Prime Big Deal Days?
Amazon describes Prime Big Deal Days as a two-day fall shopping event for Prime members. It says the event is separate from Prime Day, which it says typically runs over four days in summer.10
What to check: You need a Prime membership to access the event deals, and Amazon notes deals are available only while supplies last.10 Our Amazon Prime deals page lists current member-only deals.
